Charity and Community Service
best365体育投注英超Charity and Community Service events are part of life at Millfield. We are proud of the contribution that pupils make to a wide range of events that are organised at house, year group and the whole school level. Well over £150,000 has been distributed to a range of causes in the last ten years. It is arguably of equal importance that our pupils learn firsthand about the objectives of a range of causes. This exposure, for some, will act as a catalyst for lifelong support of a particular cause. We welcome representatives from a range of charities each year to contribute to the PSHEE programme and to attend different events that are organised. Our hope is that, through their exposure to a range of activities and causes, our pupils will develop a sense of the type and scale of need that exists in modern life.
best365体育投注英超Our aims are to help pupils to:
- develop an awareness of the need in the local, national and international settings
- respond to identified needs both as individuals and groups
- organise a range of events that generate funds for a designated cause and through this to develop their leadership, communication, administrative and team working competencies
- appreciate the value of service
- develop a sense of community
- play an active role in the decision making involved in the distribution of funds raised through charity events
best365体育投注英超Through these goals we aim to ensure that Millfield fulfils its social responsibility to less advantaged people.
Community: EAGLES Sixth Form Programme
best365体育投注英超EAGLES is a two-year voluntary programme in the Sixth Form. The ethos of EAGLES is altruism within our local community alongside the aim of developing and enhancing leadership skills. Our pupils may also receive bronze, silver and gold awards as they progress through their two years’ volunteering. Over 240 sixth formers currently engage in a variety of existing and new initiatives. Last year the Sixth Form contributed over 4,000 hours of voluntary service in our local community – a truly outstanding achievement. The Year 9 mentor scheme continues to flourish, as does teaching in our two partner state schools. Dementia Friends was introduced this year, as well as active participation in live broadcasts at Glastonbury FM. Next academic year we will be looking to offer a selected range of voluntary activities to Year 11, to prepare for their full EAGLES immersion in the Sixth Form. Looking further ahead, there is already a waiting list for our educational trip to India in 2020.
